Private by location
The language model, profile, transcripts, and memory store are designed to run locally. Intimacy does not require a remote account.
A private system for continuity
A journal that does more than remember what was said. It keeps the shape of a life available across time.
01 / Premise
Kioku began under the extremely practical—and extremely boring—name SmartJournal: a terminal-based reflective companion built around a local language model. Conversations remain on the user’s own machine, alongside a persistent profile, session transcripts, and a long-term memory store.
The system identifies durable facts, patterns, relationships, concerns, values, and goals without treating every sentence as permanent. Each memory retains evidence and provenance, allowing it to be reviewed, corrected, dated, merged, or removed.
02 / Memory loop
Write naturally in a quiet terminal conversation. Sessions are saved as readable transcripts.
Kioku extracts a small set of durable memories while preserving ambiguity and source context.
Related memories gather through semantic, temporal, and thematic affinity.
Search, edit, date, merge, or delete. Memory remains inspectable instead of becoming invisible model state.
03 / Temporal atlas
Kioku’s timeline gives recollection spatial form. Direct notes and AI-distilled memories share one navigable field; time runs through it while related experiences form visible constellations.
Building fictional memory corridor…
04 / Design position
The language model, profile, transcripts, and memory store are designed to run locally. Intimacy does not require a remote account.
Every durable memory is a readable record—not a hidden personalization layer. Its summary, evidence, tags, dates, and sources can be examined.
The user can correct, merge, or delete what the system remembers. Kioku supports reflection without claiming authority over a life.
05 / Ongoing
It should help you see what has persisted, what has changed, and where uncertainty still belongs.
